ICGPSH 2024

————————————————————————

The 3rd International Conference on Global Politics and Socio-Humanities (ICGPSH 2024) was a hybrid conference which included several workshops (offline and online) around the world. Dr. Nafhesa Ali from Northumbria University, Dr. Rebecca Liu from Lancaster University, Dr. Enrique Mallen from Sam Houston State University, and Dr. Ifa Khan from Northeastern University have chaired these workshops on related topics. ICGPSH 2024 provided the participants with good opportunities to exchange ideas and build networks, and it will lead to further collaborations between both universities and other societies.

Workshop:

Northumbria University, UK

Organizer: Dr. Nafhesa Ali, Lecturer in Northumbria University

The workshop focused on "Peace Studies," which emerged as a critical framework offering a holistic understanding of the complex dynamics in Gaza. It unraveled the intricate web of geopolitical interests, historical grievances, and power struggles that hindered the pursuit of peace. The concept of "othering" emerged as a key theme, elucidating the dehumanization of Gazans as the 'other,' exacerbating divisions and hindering reconciliation efforts. As the Gaza issue unfolded, this workshop contended that a nuanced examination of racism, bias, discrimination, peace studies, and othering was imperative for fostering a more comprehensive understanding and catalyzing transformative change in the pursuit of a just and lasting peace in the region.

Lancaster University, UK

Organizer: Dr. Rebecca Liu, Senior Lecturer in Lancaster University

The workshop focused on "Society 5.0," which epitomized Japan's initiative to foster societal advancement, marking a departure from the information technology-centered Society 4.0. This phase emphasized human-centered strategies driven by advancements in AI, robotics, biotechnology, and nanotechnology, aimed at addressing global challenges anticipated to confront Japan ahead of other nations. Conversely, "Industry Revolution 5.0," also known as Industry 5.0, symbolized a European Commission-led effort to cultivate a sustainable, human-centered, and resilient European industry. Industry 5.0 acknowledged the industry's potential to achieve societal objectives beyond mere job creation and economic growth, striving to become a robust contributor to prosperity by shifting the focus from individual technologies to a holistic approach that encompassed our planet's well-being, with the welfare of industry workers placed at the forefront of the production process.

Sam Houston State University, USA

Organizer: Prof. Enrique Mallen, Professor in Sam Houston State University

The workshop focused on "Digital Visual Cultures," which universities worldwide are promoting. In this seminar, we discussed the work of Pablo Picasso using the Online Picasso Project as a tool. Picasso, known for his overwhelmingly prolific output, adopted a multitude of styles, from the early postimpressionist phase through the Blue and Rose periods, and then into Cubism and Surrealism. His many phases continue to amaze the public. Picasso’s art is also extremely personal, and one cannot understand his work without considering his culture and the people and events that surrounded him. For this reason, the Picasso Project collection of images is directly linked to the artist’s biography. Within the narrative of his life, there are constant references to places where he lived and worked at any given moment. Additionally, links to people with whom the artist was in contact at that time are also provided. Using the Picasso Project, this workshop discussed the Spaniard’s output not only in relation to his culture but also to the work of other artists he knew. Picasso is known for his ability to absorb multiple styles and transform his observations into innovative creations. Workshop participants discussed selected works and explained the interconnections between several media and different artists, pointing out the differences and accounting for many of them based on Picasso’s Spanish background.

Northeastern University, USA

Organizer: Dr. Ifa Khan, Professor in Northeastern University

The workshop focused on the intricate relationship between international relations and global policy dynamics. We examined how international relations frameworks and geopolitical strategies shaped global political environments, exploring the role of international organizations, treaties, and alliances in influencing political stability and economic policies. Additionally, we investigated how shifts in political landscapes, driven by international relations, impacted global business practices. Discussions addressed the implications of trade policies, sanctions, and diplomatic relations on multinational corporations and global supply chains. The workshop also presented case studies, including examples from major political players like India, China, and the USA, to highlight how international relations directly influenced political decisions and business operations. We evaluated these cases to derive insights and lessons applicable to understanding the complex interplay between international relations and global policy.
